16th June 2020: Refugee Week

Created on: 15 Jun 2020

15th June – 21st June is Refugee Week, and the theme this year is ‘imagine’.

Hosted by Counterpoints Art, Refugee Week was founded in 1998 and is held every year around World Refugee Day on the 20 June (this Saturday).

Visit the Counterpoints Art website to find out about the vast programme of arts, cultural and educational events and media and creative campaigns taking place.

A variety of events have already taken place this month, including the launch of resources.  It is worth visiting the events calendar to access videos and resources that are still available.

Look out for the online launch tomorrow of a new EIS resource focused on refugees- ‘The Tale O’ the Glasgow Girls’. It features a narrative poem by teacher and Glasgow Girls campaigner, Euan Girvan, about the campaign begun in 2005 to end child detention, against dawn raids and for the rights of refugees and asylum seekers more generally. To accompany the poem, there will be some ideas for related learning activities too.

Also revisit the EIS Welcome Packs for new pupils from migrant & refugee families, launched in November 2019.
