How to Become a Learning Rep

Created on: 12 Oct 2013 | Last modified: 18 Aug 2022

EIS Learning Reps have been working across schools and colleges for around 15 years, and have been at the forefront of supporting members with professional learning, including Professional Update, and providing local learning events.

Learning Reps are trained, through a bespoke EIS Learning Reps course, to give information, advice and support to colleagues on the most appropriate professional learning for them as individuals. This course also helps Learning Reps to organise Professional Learning events in their local area, and support the campaigning priorities of their Local Association or Branch.

All EIS LRs are supported with initial training to ensure they have the confidence and skills to undertake the role.  All course fees are met in full by the EIS. Ongoing training and support is provided through regular network meetings of EIS LRs throughout the year.

We are now recruiting members to the tailor-made EIS Learning Reps course for 2020-21, with a face-to-face meeting of new participants September and the first online modules beginning soon after. To be part of the new course please get in touch with the Professional Learning Co-Ordinator via the details below.

If you are excited about the professional learning agenda, and are considering taking up this interesting, valuable role within the EIS, please note your interest for the next available training course with Rob Henthorn, Professional Learning Co-ordinator at rhenthorn@eis.org.uk or, via the Education and Equality Department, EIS HQ, 46 Moray Place, Edinburgh, EH3 6BH.
