EIS Disabled Members' Network

The Disabled Members' Network is a new network space for all members who identify as disabled, and for members who would be entitled to reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act (2010). The Network is open to, among others, Autistic members, members with long-term hearing impairments, and those with long-term illness that affects their everyday lives.

The Disabled Members' Network:

  • Connects EIS members who are disabled with colleagues from across Scotland
  • Informs the Equality Committee and EIS work on equality issues
  • Provides tailored opportunities for members to attend events, CPD, conferences and seminars
  • Keeps members up to date with equality news and initiatives
  • Gives members the chance to shape EIS policy

The next meeting of the EIS Disabled Members' Network will take place on Wednesday 27th November 2024, from 16:30-18:00, online, via Teams.

The EIS are delighted to be hosting a series of mental health sessions for EIS Equality Networks with a focus on mental health and equality.

Sessions are tailored to reflect each equality strand and the session on 27 November 2024 will be bespoke to Disabled Network members. The sessions are facilitated by anti-oppressive trainer, therapist and supervisor, Ellie Muniandy.

The session will provide insights into the relationship between mental health and equality and give space for reflection and consideration of what support and care may look like when inequality negatively impacts mental health.
