Scotland's teachers and lecturers to quiz politicians in education hustings event

Created on: 18 Jun 2024

Scotland’s teachers and lecturers will question General Election candidates from a range of parties in a special online event this week.

The Hustings event, organised by the Educational Institute of Scotland will provide Scotland’s teaching professionals with the opportunity to quiz candidates on their respective party policies on issues related to education and public services.

The online event will be held on Thursday 20th June, running from 6.30pm until 8.30pm, and will be chaired by EIS President Allan Crosbie, a Principal Teacher of English from Edinburgh. The Hustings is open to all EIS members, and will also be live-streamed vis the EIS Facebook page.

Parties who represented Scotland at Westminster before the dissolution of Parliament, and the Scottish Green Party, have been invited to attend this event to share their ambitions with EIS members. All questions put to the politicians will come from EIS members, who can register to attend the event and submit questions via the EIS website.

Participants at the Hustings will include:

Chair – Allan Crosbie (EIS President)

SNP – Jenny Gilruth

Scottish Labour – Pam Duncan Glancy

Scottish Liberal Democrats – Willie Rennie
