Anti-Fascist Rally Glasgow: Don’t Let the Far Right Divide Us

Created on: 30 Aug 2024

7th September - gather at 12pm George Square, Glasgow

At the heart of the EIS is a commitment to the promotion of sound learning, rooted in equality. We oppose racism in all its forms, and advocate for educational establishments to be safe, inclusive environments for all children, young people and staff.

Across the UK and beyond, the far right is becoming increasingly visible in the mainstream, with the recent riots causing fear and distress in our communities - in particular for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people and their families. We must use every opportunity to stand in unity and send a strong message from Scotland’s teachers and lecturers:

Every person has the right to feel safe from racism, all the time - on our streets, in our workplaces and in our schools.

The EIS, alongside a range of other organisations, including the STUC, and sister unions, is supporting the upcoming rally against the influence of the far-right in our schools, college, universities and in wider society.

EIS President Allan Crosbie will be speaking at the rally, and we invite all members to join us in George Square, with EIS flags and banners, to stand in solidarity with all those affected by racism and discrimination, in rejection of racism and fascism, and to raise our voices for unity and equality.
