1. All employees have a legal right to work in an environment that is safe and to be protected from all forms of abuse, violence and harassment. Among the array of pressures facing teachers and lecturers none is so insidious or so sapping of self-esteem as the threat of violence, intimidation or harassment which many members face on a daily basis.
2. The EIS view is that pressures in the education system can often be drivers of bullying behaviour; and that more needs to be done to ensure that educational establishments are safe and healthy workplaces.
