East Ayrshire IMT Campaign

Created on: 29 Oct 2024 | Last modified: 01 Nov 2024

East Ayrshire Council is meeting on Thursday, 31st October to consider concerning proposals which would see the East Ayrshire Instrumental Music Service transferred from the local authority’s Education Department to an arm’s length trust.

If you are available on Thursday, 31st October, please join us at our demonstration to oppose these plans outside East Ayrshire Council HQ, London Road, Kilmarnock at 9.15am.

We are encouraging members to stand with our colleagues in East Ayrshire and send a message of solidarity to them in their fight against these moves to transfer. We will gather these messages centrally on the EIS website and tweet the messages of support.

Please send your message to jharris@eis.org.uk.

If these proposals are passed, they would effectively privatise music provision in East Ayrshire.

  • It undermines Scottish Government’s manifesto commitments to raise the status of IM tuition as a key element of Education and to remove barriers to access
  • It jeopardises the ongoing delivery of high-quality tuition for children and young people, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • With no financial savings to the Council from the transfer, the IM Service should be protected and remain in Education
  • There has been no meaningful consultation with trade unions
