Join the University of Strathclyde on Saturday 1st February at the Glasgow Area Office, 10am-3.30pm for Picture Perfect Teaching: Explorations of the hidden power of the image as a creative space for every learner.

This one day, in-person course explains why pictures make excellent starting point for learning, especially in linguistically diverse classrooms. We draw on Project Zero’s research on Making Thinking Visible which promotes the idea that art and images can be used to develop student’s key skills of observation, interpretation, and questioning. We explore how teachers can use images as starting points to hook and motivate learner’s natural curiosity about the world. This method can cut across all disciplinary boundaries.

We will explain how to select and curate images and build visual literacy as an aspect of day-to-day teaching and learning routines.

This session is suited to teachers in both primary and secondary sectors, and across all subject disciplines. We will unpack why a ‘picture pedagogy’ should be better understood and applied in supporting participatory, inclusive, and equitable classroom practices.
