In response to
concerns raised by the EIS, the SQA is making additional support available. In their recent update for practitioners the SQA announced they have sent out the key messages from QA. There are key subject specific messages for about 10 subjects available. Going forward the SQA will add other subject areas as they are finalised.
Subject specific common questions
The SQA are publishing common questions, with answers, in response to the large volume of subject-specific queries they are receiving on the new National Courses. Common questions, and answers, are available for the following subjects:
Art and Design
Mathematics
Physical Education
Biology
Chemistry
Physics
Computing Science
Practical Woodworking
Practical Metalworking
Practical Craft Skills
Geography
These are available from each of the corresponding subject pages
here.
The SQA will publish further sets of common questions over the coming months for other subjects.
Additional support for teachers is being offered in the form of subject specific CPD events. This was communicated to Local Authorities and SQA Co-ordinators on 11 December 2013.
Using intelligence gathered from centres, they have identified subjects where further support is required to build teachers’ confidence and answer assessment questions. SQA will put in place additional subject experts to provide CPD for teachers. This will be delivered at Local Authority or sector level, not school level.
