Save the Date: EIS Social Justice and Solidarity Conference

‘Still We Rise’ - 17th and 18th January, Radisson Blu, Glasgow 

 

Day 1: Friday (12:00pm – 16:15pm) followed by a dinner and entertainment. 

The aim of Friday is to empower EIS members who belong to groups that are underrepresented in the Union and in Education, including invited guests, providing an intersectional, supportive, peer-learning space. Participants will receive workshops sessions on:

  • Wellbeing and Mental Health from an equality perspective

  • Equality Literacy: Power, Privilege and Oppression

  • Fair Work, Equality and Education: Understanding the Fair Work Framework, Fair Work First, Fair Work Statements and the role of the Fair Work Convention from an equality lens, and its links to Scottish Education/teaching workforce.

Day one will provide space for reflection for all attendees on how to engage and utilise the equality and consider their collective power and organising. Dinner and entertainment will be held in the evening. 

 

Day 2: Saturday (10:00am – 16:15pm) lunch included 

The aim of Saturday is to encourage wider engagement with the Equality agenda and upskill EIS members in these areas.

All attendees will pre-select two of the following workshop sessions in advance:

  1. Disability equality

  2. Anti-racism

  3. Gender equality  

  4. Peace education

  5. LGBT equality

  6. Poverty

The details of each workshop will be distributed closer to the event date.

Structure of the day:

  • 09:30am   Registration and welcome breakfast/refreshments.

  • 10:00am   Welcome session in the main hall & solidarity video.

  • 10:30am   Workshop sessions.

  • 12:30pm   Lunch, networking, entertainment.

  • 13:15pm   Post-lunch energiser.

  • 13:30pm   Workshop sessions.

  • 15:30pm   International panel

  • 16:15pm   Closing remarks
