EIS Social Justice and Solidarity Conference

‘Still We Rise’  took place on the 17th and 18th January 2025 at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow.

‘Still We Rise’ was a two-day conference where EIS members explored how educators and trade unionists can rise up to create a more fair and equal world for all. The name of the conference is borrowed from Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise”.

Day 1

The focus of the first day of the conference was to empower EIS members who belong to groups that are underrepresented in the Union and in Education, including invited guests, providing an intersectional, supportive, peer-learning space. Participants received workshops sessions on:

  • Wellbeing and Mental Health from an equality perspective

  • Equality Literacy: Power, Privilege and Oppression

  • Fair Work, Equality and Education: Understanding the Fair Work Framework, Fair Work First, Fair Work Statements and the role of the Fair Work Convention from an equality lens, and its links to Scottish Education/teaching workforce.
