Save the Date: EIS Social Justice and Solidarity Conference
‘Still We Rise’ - 17th and 18th January, Radisson Blu, Glasgow
Registrations are now open for the EIS’s equality focused two-day conference exploring how educators and trade unionists can rise up to create a fairer and more equal world for all. The first day of the conference involves leadership learning for our equality networks, whilst the second day engages all members in the equality agenda.
Day 1: Friday (12:00pm – 16:15pm) followed by a dinner and entertainment.
The aim of Friday is to empower EIS members who belong to groups that are underrepresented in the Union and in Education, including invited guests, providing an intersectional, supportive, peer-learning space. Participants will receive workshops sessions on:
Wellbeing and Mental Health from an equality perspective
Equality Literacy: Power, Privilege and Oppression
Fair Work, Equality and Education: Understanding the Fair Work Framework, Fair Work First, Fair Work Statements and the role of the Fair Work Convention from an equality lens, and its links to Scottish Education/teaching workforce.
Day one will provide space for reflection for all attendees on how to engage and utilise the equality and consider their collective power and organising. Dinner and entertainment will be held in the evening.
Day 2: Saturday (10:00am – 16:15pm) lunch included
The aim of Saturday is to encourage wider engagement with the Equality agenda and upskill EIS members in these areas.
