Dear Colleague
Please find briefing on the financial situation of Scottish Universities and other HEIs. The EIS believes that Scottish HEIs' financial statements show that they have the resources to pay staff more and that senior staff pay has been increasing at a faster rate than staff pay. The raw figures and analysis are copied for information in the attached Excel worksheet.
The EIS is recommending you to vote "Yes" in the statutory ballot on pay that has opened today. The EIS is clear however that any strike action will only take part in joint strike action.
The EIS understands that the UCU, Unison and Unite may be taking strike action in New JNCHES covered HEIs on 31 October 2013. The EIS will send advice to members on this in due course.
Finally, whilst the statistical information includes all Scottish HEIs - the statutory ballot that has just opened today includes HEIs that are signed up to New JNCHES for pay bargaining. SRUC, RSC and the UHI are outwith New JNCHES and this briefing is for information to EIS members at these HEIs.
Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.
Best
David
