Dear Colleague

DISPUTE BETWEEN (INSTITUTION NAME) AND THE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE OF SCOTLAND

I write to you regarding the Trade Dispute which currently exists between (Institution Name) and the Educational Institute of Scotland and the ongoing industrial action.

The EIS is anxious to find a solution to this dispute which would avoid any future disruption to students’ learning and would concur with the statements expressed by the Scottish Government on 24 September 2012:

"The Scottish government has invested significant funding in our universities and colleges and we appreciate the hard work and dedication of staff in the education sector.

As independent bodies pay is a matter for institutions, staff, and the appropriate unions and we hope a solution can be found which avoids any disruption to students learning.”

The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to ask whether your university would agree, in principle, to talks involving other HE Institutions in Scotland and the EIS with a view to resolving the current impasse.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely

Larry Flanagan

General Secretary
