Incident Reporting

It is important that members are aware of the need, and their right, to report incidents that may occur in the course of their working day.

These incidents could be the result of verbal or physical abuse from a pupil, an accident occurring from using equipment or undertaking a task or anything else that results in an injury or near miss.

Members should use the Stirling Council Corporate Incident Form, a copy of which can be found here. This is referred to as a CIF, short for Corporate Incident Form. It is the only form that should be used - if you are asked to complete a different form, please ensure that a CIF form is completed first. You should be able to obtain access to the form through your line manager.

The CIF form must be completed by yourself and your line manager. It should be completed collegiately and you should be given sight of the completed form before it is submitted and can request a copy for your own records.

The CIF is the official form to be used. If you intend to make a claim for an injury at work, it is vital that a form is submitted. Additionally, where multiple CIFs are generated for a repeating incident, this will help to highlight issues and support negotiations to try to resolve them.

To support the above, there is a copy of the Council Incident Reporting flowchart here.

Additionaly, the Stirling Council Incident Reporting Policy can be found here.
