As you can see we are not contesting the thrust of the report findings but we have echoed its criticism of the handling of this entire matter by NLC. I attended the briefing on Friday and it was clear that despite the history of the site, NLC had done little to proactively monitor the location in a way which could have offered reassurance to staff and pupils. Indeed, at the briefing it was clear to me that some of the monitoring activity which should have taken place, quite clearly hadn’t.
Moving forward the proposed overview group offers a vehicle to ensure that the ongoing monitoring of soil and air samples can be pursued. The EIS is arguing, also, for medical screening to be made available on request to staff and pupils.
