Stand Up for Quality Education Campaign
The implementation of the Scottish Government's commitment to reduce class contact time to a maximum of 21 hours per week and ensure that the resulting time is afforded fully to teachers' preparation and correction time, remains a key goal in the workload component of the EIS Stand up For Quality Education campaign.
Unsustainable workload is having a significant effect on the wellbeing of teachers across Scotland, with teachers working over 11 hours on average, unpaid.

Due to the failure of the Scottish Government and CoSLA to make any meaningful progress towards tabling a proposal, the teachers' panel declared a formal dispute on 7th February.
The EIS has now written to First Minister John Swinney and is awaiting a reply.
The EIS Salaries Committee has decided that if no positive progress is made by the Easter break then a consultative ballot for industrial action will be undertaken in late April.
Pay Claim 2025/26
Following the submission of the Teachers' Panel pay claim on 14th February 2025 and a meeting of the SNCT Extended Joint Chairs last week, COSLA responded with an initial offer of a 3% uplift across all SNCT pay grades.
The Teachers' Panel of the SNCT has unanimously rejected this offer and requested that negotiations take place without any delay, to ensure that the pay award for 2025/26 is agreed and paid to teachers timeously.

Work to deliver ABS-RSS is underway and the SPPA expects to commence delivery of ABS-RSS shortly with most statements being delivered by the end of May.
A smaller number which are more complex to calculate, will be completed by the end of August.
ABS-RSS are being issued by email this year and some will be sent by mail. This is different from previous years as the SPPA is moving to a new online member self-service portal. This should be in place for the next round of ABS-RSS.
If you are approaching retirement and eligible for the 2015 Remedy, the SPPA is rolling out the delivery of Remediable Service Statements for members to make a remedy choice as part of the retirement process. This is expected to be fully operational by the end of September.

Contact us Regarding Your Pension
To ensure that all pension and pay-related queries are handled efficiently, we have introduced a dedicated mailbox: pensions@eis.org.uk. Going forward, please direct all pension and pay queries to this email address.
This change comes as we welcome two new team members to the Employment Relations department, Murray McLeod and Grace Paton. Murray will be sharing responsibility for pension and pay-related queries with Stephen, while Grace has taken over from Gillian, who has now retired. Using this shared mailbox will help ensure that all queries are responded to promptly and appropriately.

Robert Gordon University Anti-Cuts Campaign
Lecturers and academic-related staff at Robert Gordon University voted in favour of taking industrial action. Over 20 FTE of academic staff remain at risk of compulsory redundancy, on top of a large number of "voluntary" severances. The EIS is supporting and facilitating members to stand against the cuts being proposed by university management at RGU.
